I am interested in the new Web gadgets that pop up at tearing rate these days. There is a perverted little tool called Netbus that everybody seems to play with right now (Dec 1998).

It's all about remote control of other people's PC's by connecting to the IP-adress. However, before connection may take place, an .exe-file has to be placed in the Windows directory of the victim's PC. This is often done by attaching a small game (The game Whack-A-Mole seems popular right now together with some Bill Clinton stuff named bill.exe) in a mail to the victim. If the victim runs the game, the Netbus client-side executable is installed in the background with an arbitrary name. Evidence of a Netbus client may be deducted from the Windows Registry.

I have only made some tests during one evening out of pure curiosity and the results were quite frightening, especially since it's possible to scan IP-numbers over the net and detect PC's that already have the Netbus implant (check the 'Scan' button below). This program clearly infringes upon the personal integrity in a way that I find disgusting. The most vicious functions are the yellow buttons below. Click on them to see what they do!

There are a lot of web-resources dealing with Netbus and how to avoid it.
You should also be aware that the ICQ service is subject to a lot of hacking.
